Year Level: Grade 6

 

Lesson Idea: Collage to depict mood

 

Duration of Lesson: 60minutes

 

Learning intention: We are learning to create a picture collage

 

Success Criteria: We are able to use the technique of collage to create to add meaning to poetry

 

Resources:iPads

 

Student Back ground or knowledge: Students have a lot of experience using iPads

 

Assessments ideas: This task can be adjusted to be prior knowledge, diagnostic and final assessment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Procedure

 

Introduction

  • Teacher shows past students work of picture collages and read the poem

  • Teacher asks question about the use of the elements of art to elicit answers from students

  • Teacher ask questions comparing past artworks with picture collage to revisit mood, emotion and sensory awareness.

 

Activity 1

  • Student and teacher discuss how the picture collage is made in note to store app

  • Teacher and students walk through a step by step demonstration

 

Activity 2

  • Students discuss how they could create a mood with pictures

  • Students are then allowed out in the yard with the teacher supervising their photo taking and behaviour

 

Activity 3

  • Student create collages thinking about the mood and sensory awareness.

 

Activity 4

  • Student create a Haiku poem which has the flowwing amount of syllables:5, 7, 5.

 

Conclusion

  • Students do a gallery walk to see each other work.

  • Students leave feedback on posted notes

  • Student verbally explain what they found meaningful and important in this lesson.
