Learning intention: We are learning to use dynamics to bring expression and meaning to the stories we read.
Success Criteria: We are able to read and grow in dynamics as the music dynamic markings indicate.

The scary Dynamics story worksheet
Student Back ground or knowledge: Students have had only had a session on sounds scapes in which they created their own. This lesson is to build upon that lesson by providing another element of music for the students to add to their soundscape.
Assessments ideas: This lesson could be a progressive, final and diagnostic assessment depending on what you wished to used it for will depend on your focus. The focus of this session is progressive and diagnostic assessment.
Procedure
Introduction:

Teacher demonstrates different dynamics by reading the learning intention loudly and then the success criteria softly

Teacher and students do this together.
Activity 1

Students and teacher read through the Scary Dynamics story

Students and teacher talk about the p piano meaning quiet soft speaking

Teacher and students talk about the pianissimo pp meaning a whisperTeacher ask students what ppp must then mean , students say it must be bearly audible speaking
Activity 2

Students now perform and teacher records their scary story performance

Student listen to the recording of the Scary Dynamics story.

This is use as inspiration for their soundscape dynamics
Activity 3

Students rehearse their sound scapes trialling different dynamics

Student organise the dynamics and write them down on an A4 piece of paper.
Conclusion
Student perform their enhanced dynamic soundscape to the class.
