Integrated Approach to Literacy:

Learning through "the Arts"

 

Integrating "the Arts" in other subject areas can be a daunting and overwhelming task and time constraints do not make anything easier for our hunger for to provide our students, schools and communities with world class standard in education. It is for this reason that I have design a simple excerpt as an example to inspire and help teachers with some basic s skills and resources to make life just the little bit easier. In the below integrated learning through "the Arts" unit I have provided full assessment documents, curriculum, lesson sequences, online resources and online work sheets that are easy to source and to adapt to your needs. This unit is a grade two literacy unit on Aesop's Fables. This unit uses both Aus Vels (2013) and ACARA (2014) standards and outcomes for assessment and reporting. Each learning intention, rubric, worksheet and assessment criteria are designed to help student reflect and to provide vital feedback to teacher of students progress and comprehension. Each session is designed to fully probe for understanding in non intrusive fun and exciting way. The focus of this unit is fables and it focuses on the conventions, scaffolding tools used to teach key characteristics of a fable, creative writing techniques that are crucial to the Fable genre. Along with higher critical level thinking tools for any age group.It my desire that you find the lesson plans and work sheet a helpful resources that empowers you to harness the limitless centuries on power of " the Arts" to truly love and transform your Literacy into everything you have ever wanted it to be.
