Year Level:  All grades 2 (Adapted for older or younger grades)

 

Lesson Idea: Paper Collage

 

Duration of Lesson: 20minutes depending on age

 

Learning intention: We are learning to create a self portrait using the arts element texture and the technique of collage

 

Success Criteria: We are able to use the elements of

art to create a self portrait that expresses how we see ourselves.

 

Resources:A3 white paper,coloured paper,Newspapers Magazines and clag.

 

Student Back ground or knowledge: Students have had experience making paper mashe'

 

Introduction:

  • Teacher read a book that uses paper collage pictures in its photos

  • The teacher talks about the elements of art that are used in the mask such as 2d aspects of layering paper and the effect that occur

Students attention is drawn to the

line,

texture,

tone colour,

form,

emphasis,

volume,

repetition and shape.

  • Student choose one elemen that they think explains the look of collage

  • The teacher asks the students to point out to the teacher where each element might be used? In the teachers collage

  • Teacher ands students discuss texture and the technique of collage

 

Activity 1

  • Students are asked to create a paper collage from

  • newspapers and magazines

  • The teacher models the key steps for students take and outline cleanliness procedures

 

Activity 2

  • Student create collages thinking about  texture however the elements of art:

1line,

2 texture,

3 symmetry,

4 colour tone,

5 contrast,

6 shape,

7 form,

8 space,

9 Volume

are also considered.

  • These are written on the board for students reference

 

Activity 3

  • Students do a gallery walk to see each other work.

  • Students leave feedback on posted notes

 

Conclusion

  • Student verbally explain what they found meaningful and important in this lesson.
